Every year the Maryknoll community gathers at the home of the Maryknoll Sisters to put up their Christmas decorations and then have pizza and caroling together. Steve Chinnavaso was one of the first to get to work when we gathered after the Saturday night mass.
Len Montiel (L) and Nancy Davies took their decorating efforts to the front porch.
The top of the sisters' dishware cabinet always has a nativity scene created with a variety of different figures from various countries. This year Bob Wynne took on the task of arranging all the people and the animals.
In the living room, Maria Montello (L), Helene O'Sullivan, Hang Tran, and Sami Scott put hung ornaments while Steve Chinnavaso took pictures. We had everyone with us this year except Karen Bortvedt (Maryknoll Lay Missioners) and Olga Pacumbaba (Philippines Catholic Lay Mission movement). Both were sick today.
With many people and limited decorating to be done, there is time for plenty of conversations. Here Helene O'Sullivan and Dee Dungy talk while Maria Montello and Steve Chinnavaso carry on another conversation in the background.
The pizza arrived at 7:00 PM and Len arranged it for serving while Helene and Dee continued talking as did Steve and Maria. Bob Wynne and Hang Tran decided to be first in the serving line.
After filling their plates with pizza and salad, Maria Montello, Sami Scott, Mary Little, and Nancy Davies sat down to enjoy their food and more conversation.
These evenings always end with the singing of traditional Christmas carols and hymns. L-R:Nancy Davies, Bob Wynne, Charlie Dittmeier, Luise Ahrens, Meden Tan, Maria Montello, Ann Sherman, Helene O'Sullivan, Hang Tran.
A few years ago Steve put together a collection of songs which the group sang with gusto, and we are fortunate to have an abundance of musicians to help us in our musical expression. Tonight Sami played the flute and Steve the guitar and Kevin Conroy contributed with a bell virtuoso performance.
This evening is always most enjoyable, and tonight was no exception. |
