Each Christmas the Salesian Girls Technical School in Tuol Kork stages a Christmas Bazaar as a fun event and a fund-raiser. Fr. Charlie has mass for the sisters and some students at 6:15 AM each Friday morning at the school. A large part of the bazaar is dedicated to serving nine or ten different kinds of food. This happy crew was preparing a fried vegetable patty. |
|
This stall served a meet dish, cooked in a wok with vegetables. One of the Salesian Sisters came over to see how things were going.
To go along with the different dishes, this stall served a variety of drinks. A favorite among many during the afternoon was a smoothie made with passion fruit.
Perhaps the more glamorous and more enjoyable tasks were working with customers at the different stalls, but there was also work to be done in the background. These two girls were preparing vegetables that would go into some of the dishes.
And of course someone had to wash dishes, especially in some stalls were a type of cup or a special dish was used over and over throughout the afternoon.
The Salesian School complex incorporates a kindergarten, classes for primary students, and then the main classes of young women learning business skills. For the bazaar, the past pupils association also participates. These youngsters were all dressed up and ready for their performance when the stage show was repeated in the afternoon.
In addition to the food, there was a variety of games where people could try out their skill--or maybe just their luck. Each year the students are creative in devising different types of simple games that have liens of people wanting to try their hand at them.
And because some of the girls bring their younger brothers and sisters and because families are invited, there are also activities for the very young, like this fish pond. |
