Maryknoll Boat Trip

11 September 2011

Lindsay Doucette is the newest member of the Cambodian Mission Team, a member of the Maryknoll Lay Missioners who came to Cambodia in January, 2010.  Recently her mother, Lorita, and sister, Eve, came to visit Lindsay in Phnom Penh, and as part of their visit Lindsay arranged a boat trip on the Tonle Sap River along the waterfront of Phnom Penh.

Tour boats on the waterfront

About fifteen to twenty large tourboats now tie up along the Phnom Penh riverfront.  Renting a boat is about $20 per hour.

As Kevin Conroy makes his way aboard via the narrow gangplank, the only nod to safety is a long bamboo pole positioned as a type of handrail by two of the crew.

Setting out the food

Each member of the CMT brought some food along and there was plenty to eat and drink throughout the trip.  Several of Lindsay's student interns came along for the ride.

Enjoying the trip

Because the winds were high and a storm threatening, the boat stayed in the calmer waters of the Tonle Sap River which made for a pleasant trip.
