1-2 August 2008
(Friday-Saturday)
Days 45-46

Charlie arrived in Bangkok at 11:30 PM on Thursday, 31 July and went to the Maryknoll house to stay. On Friday, he worked at the Maryknoll office and then on Saturday went to a doctor appointment and then caught a flight back to Phnom Penh in the early evening.

Entrance to BNH Hospital At the end of Charlie's physical examination on the way to Rome three weeks ago, the doctor recommended a follow-up exam so today he consulted a specialist at BNH Hospital in Bangkok where most of the Maryknollers go for treatment, especially for medical services not available in Cambodia.

Photo honoring the king After the hospital visit, on a walk through a commercial neighborhood, this large sign honoring the much revered King of Thailand was seen on the front of a Catholic girls school.
Old wooden houses in Bangkok These old--and rapidly disappearing--wooden houses were spotted in a Bangkok neighborhood near the Maryknoll office.
Mini gas pump in Bangkok neighborhood Believe it or not, this is a mini gas station, two small pumps enclosed in a small structure along a narrow Bangkok neighborhood street.

Large statue in Bangkok airport The first vista to greet passengers emerging from passport control into the gate area of the new Bangkok airport is this huge statue of mythical creatures engaged in a tug-o-war with a naga (snake) in the "churning sea of milk" from which all creation came.
