Sacred Heart Church and School

Sacred Heart Church & School

Sacred Heart is an old parish from the middle of the 1800s, founded by mostly German immigrants. Today it has a modern church, an elementary and a high school, an old convent used for classrooms, and a rectory on a downtown corner of Morrilton, Arkansas.

Sacred Heart church sign Sacred Heart is a strong and lively traditional church community that is also in tune with the modern world and open to new ideas. Fr. Charles Thessing has been their pastor for ten years.

Sacred Heart Church The relatively new church looks small from the outside but is actually quite spacious. Fr. Charlie Dittmeier spoke at the three masses this weekend about Cambodia and Maryknoll's mission work.
Statue of Mary Outside a statue of Mary, the Mother of Jesus, reflects the solid faith and devotion of the community. The statue was donated by the Knights of Columbus which are a strong and active group in the area.
Sacred Heart rectory The parish rectory contains both the parish office and the living quarters for Fr. Thessing.
Interior of the church Inside, the church is spacious and well-planned, with very good acoustics and visibility.
Statue of Jesus
One of the parishioners created this carved wooden statue of Jesus in a dynamic stance.

Jules Wade and Charlie Dittmeier After the last mass on Sunday, Charlie Dittmeier headed back to Louisville, changing planes in Memphis. There a friend from their St. Thomas Seminary days, Jules Wade, met him at the airport for a short reunion and meal together.
