Trip to Italy
and United States

June-July, 2008

2 July 2008 (Wednesday)

Maryknoll has had a house in Rome for many years, to represent all its members at the Vatican and to serve as a house of studies for Maryknollers attending courses in Rome. It is located near Villa Borghese in a residential area of old Rome.

The side and front of the Maryknoll house in the northern part of old Rome.

The house from the rear. Maryknoll has owned the house for a long time.

The front doors, once you have entered the courtyard from the street.

A view from the interior courtyard, looking back toward the gate to the street.

The entrance hall, looking back toward the front doors.

The stairway leading upstairs from the entrance hallway.

Looking down the entrance hallway from the front doors.

Another view toward the front doors, over the stairs leading to the dining area below.

One of rooms off that main hallway is this television room.

The first-floor chapel.

Another view of the chapel.

The stairway to the second, third, and fourth floors.

At the top of the main stairway at the third floor.

One of the long-term resident rooms where I stayed. Not all the rooms are this nice.

The rooms are well arranged and this one has its own bathroom.

Each room has a sink. This one is separate from the bathroom which was added later.

The dining room, a pleasantly cool room below ground level.

The kitchen is modern and produces wonderful Italian food!
