A group that has become more active in recent years, especially in the area of deafness, is the Aisa-Pacific Development Center on Disabilities (APCD). After APCD organized a successful workshop on deafness in Cambodia last December, DDP has kept in touch with them to find ways to work together. |
|
Charlie Dittmeier planned a visit to the APCD office while he was in Bangkok to talk over a few ideas. Here Mr. Somchai (R) speaks about APCD's plans while a sign language interpreter works for the understanding of the deaf person present for the meeting. |

Ms. Panomwan Boontem (L) is the deaf president of the Thai Deaf Women's Network, a recently organized group that could possibly be a model for a group in Cambodia. With her is Ms. Emi Aizawa from the Japan Interntional Cooperation Agency (JICA). She is working as an advisor in the development of persons with disabilities. |

The group posed for a photo together after the meeting. |

The king of Thailand is truly revered by the people of the kingdom. Especially since his 80th birthday and more recent illness, photos and displays of him are prominent everywhere, such as this three-story picture of him on a tall downtown building. |
|
Here pictures of the king and the queen are displayed in a wat (Buddhist temple) along with images of the Buddha. |

On the platform of the SkyTrain, an elevated mass transit train system, more images of the king are displayed. Yellow is the royal color and on any given day, thousands of people are wearing yellow shirts with the kings emblem on them. |
