The model of the Tempest being demonstrated actually does not intentionally detonate mines. Rather it clears the brush so that human de-miners--who used to spend 40% of their time first removing brush--can follow the vehicle and locate the mines. This is what the de-mining customers asked for. Newer models being tested, however, actually engage the ground and set off hidden mines. Visible here are the shallow trenches left when the flails not only obliterate the underbrush but also remove the top two inches of soil.
