Map of Lantau Island The dark purple line starting from the right side of the map is the route of the 23 April hike from Mui Wo to the new Chek Lap Kok airport--over one of the highest ridges of the island. The red line is the route of the hike on 7 May, again from Mui Wo to the new airport, but via a lower pass over the island's central ridge.

The small island--Chek Lap Kok--at the end of the purple, red, and blue lines--is no longer an island. It was leveled off and connected to to Lantau Island to create the new airport. The blue line from the airport is the new highway and rail link connecting the airport with the rest of Hong Kong.
