Filming at DDP for French Television |
A French TV channel in Paris broadcasts regular programs for the deaf community there. Nuria Prigent, a TV producer, came to Cambodia to produce a show about Cambodia Sign Language and its development. She was accompanied by Luc, a soundman, and Jeremie, a cameraman.

Nuria's special interest is sign language and the development--or its lack--of sign language in Cambodia seemed to be a topic that would interest the deaf community in France. Here Jeremie, Luc, and Nuria check the classroom for light and sound before the shooting began. |
|
Dr. James "Woody" Woodward was training the DDP's sign language researchers the week of the filming. Woody, a sign language linguist, is based in Vietnam but is a consultant for the Cambodian sign language development program. |
|
The final television show will be only twenty-eight minutes long, but the crew shot hours and hours of footage of classes, training sessions, and the deaf people in casual settings. They also filmed at the Krousar Thmey deaf school to illustrate how the new signs are used. |
