Fifth Sunday of Ordinary Time

SUN NIHN FAI LOK!

The Hong Kong Catholic Pastoral Association for the Deaf wishes much life, happiness, and peace to everyone in the Year of the Dragon! And may it also be a year of prosperity so that we might share with all those who need our love and our help.

THANK YOU

"Thank you, thank you, thank you for the wonderful farewell party you gave me last Sunday! I was truly overwhelmed by your many gifts and greetings and by your friendship and love. That was one of the best days of my life! It showed me again that I have so many wonderful friends who are really my brothers and sisters. Thank you!"

Fr. Dittmeier

FIFTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME

Recently in India the pope finished the Asian synod by calling for renewed evangelism in Asia. He said that we must help people know Jesus but we must teach them by our lives and by our actions, not by giving them a sermon. Today's gospel (Mark 1:29-39) gives us a good example of that. Jesus sees Peter's sick mother-in-law. He doesn't talk to her but instead he "grasped her hand and helped her up." And then she began working with Jesus. We must grasp the hand of poor and suffering people in Asia and help them up. Then they will understand about Jesus and will want to follow him and work with us.

Our mass this weekend will be at Fuk Tak School (Fr. Dittmeier's house) at 10:30 AM. After mass we will celebrate the Lunar New Year together.

GIVEAWAY

After mass on Sunday, Fr. Dittmeier will have many items for people to take, if they can use them. He cannot take all his possessions to Cambodia so he is giving things away.

FR. FERNANDO

Last week Bishop Zen/Chan announced that Fr. Fernando will be assigned to the Holy Redeemer Parish in Tuen Mun. He will also work with the youth groups in that area. And the bishop also said that he can work one Sunday a month with the Catholic deaf community. That will be a very different situation, but the Catholic deaf committee and Fr. Fernando will meet and work out a plan for serving the Catholic deaf community. Welcome, Fr. Fernando!
