Asian Deaf Conference, Day 4

This day started off underground in the Roman catacombs.  From there we went to the church of St. Paul Outside the Walls. The afternoon was given to more reports from the country groups and Tom Coughlin also spoke more about the idea of vocation and what it means.  At supper time, we were joined by the bishops of Singapore and Dhaka, Bangladesh.  They accompanied us back to the conference room where we had a light program of games.

Mass in the catacombsThere are more than eleven miles of catacombs beneath the city of Rome.  Most are closed to the public for safety reasons but the tours give a good understanding of the history and culture that produced the catacombs.  We celebrated mass in a small room that was a family burial area.

Church of St. Paul Outside the WallsThis church is built upon the traditiional site where St. Paul was martyred.  Only a small part of this church is from the original construction.  It was rebuilt in the 1800s after a fire caused the collapse of most of the body of the church.
