Conference of Pastoral Workers with Catholic Deaf People in Asia

7-14 October, 2005

This morning I walked around Villa Borghese, a huge park which was once the estate of the Borghese family which produced noblemen and popes.  Beautiful grounds surround a fine museum which is one of the finer museums of Rome.  I had been to Villa Borghese before because it is very near the Maryknoll house but only to skirt its outer edges.  This time I walked through the park to explore its pathways, fountains, piazzas, zoo, and other attractions.

More walking was planned for the afternoon but I got involved with preparations for the deaf conference and never got back out of the building.

Cleaning a fountain

There are many fountains throughout the Borghese estate. Here workmen give one of them a thorough cleaning.

Small cars are a real advantage in Rome's traffic and parking problems.  These cars are small enough to park in motorcycle spaces.

Domes on the old Rome skylineFortunately Rome has strict zoning controls on building heights so the many monuments and churches and other historic buildings are not obscured by skyscrapers.  These domes are seen from the top of the Spanish Steps, looking west toward St. Peter's Basilica.
