Salesian Marian Celebration

25 May 2012

Every year the Salesian Community organizes a Rosary Procession and liturgy to honor Mary, the Mother of Jesus. It is held on a Friday night at the Don Bosco Technical School for Boys in Phnom Penh Thmey, on the northern edge of Phnom Penh.

Sister and students at the celebration

Gathering before the rosary
The students and teachers from the various Salesian schools gathered under a big shelter before the ceremony.
Ready for the procession
These students from the boys school formed an honor guard that walked in front of the statue.
Happy students
Many of the students are boarders at the Salesian schools and special events like this create a change of pace and an interesting evening and a chance to meet other young people.
Carrying the statue of Mary
These boys carried the statue of Mary, marching about the middle of the procession which was more than two blocks long.
Processing around the school grounds
Salesian schools are always BIG and the Don Bosco Technical School for boys is no exception. The procession wound around the center of the campus for about twenty minutes.
Some of those processing
There was a diverse group of students and faculty and many outsiders from the various Catholic communities.
Candle bearers by the entrance
At the entrance to the gym/auditorium turned into chapel for tonight, these students stood with candles to welcome everyone.
Preparing a presentation
Between the rosary procession and a mass, there was a presentation about the Salesian schools. Sr. Ludjmila Anzic and one of the staff prepared the LCD projector.
