Corpus Christi Procession

17 June 2012

Every year in June the Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of Corpus Christi (Latin for the Body of Christ), a centuries-old solemnity to honor the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. At St. Joseph Church, at the 8:30 AM liturgy, the parishioners had a Corpus Christi procession around the church compound.

Colored design at the church

The first part of the procession
After the mass, most of the parishioner lined the route of the procession which wound around several buildings on the church compound. Others walked in the procession before or after the Blessed Sacrament.
Fr. Bruno with the monstrance
Fr. Bruno Cosme, the pastor of St. Joseph Church, carried the eucharistic host in a gold vessel called a monstrance. Those standing along the way had baskets of flower petals which they showered on to the procession.
The end of the procession
As the procession came around the buildings the third time, all the people lining the route joined in the procession which then went back into the church.
A colored design on the grounds

The youth group of the parish created this large graphic design in the church parking area. They used 325 pounds of sawdust mixed with colored powder to create this image of a chalice and a host. They started work at 5:30 AM because they didn't want to take a chance on it raining on their design if they did it the night before.
