Epiphany Celebration
at the Bishop's House

2 January 2011

Every year, on the day the Church celebrates the feast of the Epiphany, the bishop hosts a dinner for the sisters and brothers and priests and lay missionaries working in the diocese of Phnom Penh.  It's a chance to recognize and appreciate their work and for all who come to get to know each other a little better.  This year new Bishop Olivier also invited many people from the councils and committees of the parishes and the number of people attending about doubled, forcing the event to move next door to the grounds of the Catholic Church Student Center.  This is the last event of the Christmas season in Phnom Penh.

Bishop Olivier
Bishop Olivier welcomed everyone, thanked them for their work, and then explained a little about his pastoral letter published this weekend which outlines his thoughts and hopes for the development of the diocese for the next ten years.
Apostolic Nuncio and Bp. Olivier
This is the first time Bp. Olivier has hosted this event as bishop, and another new face was Archbishop Luciano (left), the Apostolic Nuncio or ambassador from the Vatican to the countries of Thailand, Cambodia, Burma, and Laos.  He is a personable man who mixed easily with the people at the tables set up in the yard of the student center.
Children's choir
After the talking was finished, the food was served and again the children from the Don Bosco school in Teuk Thla sang a number of Christmas songs and hymns.
