The Carmelite Sisters, a contemplative cloistered group of sisters, established their community in Cambodia about ten years ago. They had been living in a large regular house in the city while their community stabilized and they raised the money for this new monastery on the outskirts of Phnom Penh. |

The Phnom Penh community has eight sisters, including the two postulants in white veils waiting for the ceremony to begin, but another fifteen or so sisters came for this ceremony which confirmed the Carmelite presence in the country. This group of sisters was founded from a mother house in Korea. |

Five bishops and most of the priests of the diocese of Phnom Penh were present for the ceremony which lasted about two and a half hours. Afterwards the sisters invited all the guests to stay for lunch under tents in their yard. |
