Salesian Sisters Retreat 2008

24 August 2008

The Salesian Sisters are located in two local communities in Phnom Penh, one in Tuol Kork where they have a training center for young women and the other in Teuk Thla where they have an elementary school and more training. Every year the two communities have a retreat together, and this year Fr. Charlie Dittmeier led the eight-day spiritual gathering at the Teuk Thla center. The theme was Pope Benedict's recent encyclical Spe Salvi, with a sub-theme of "Do not be afraid."

A skit

On Sunday, the last day, after the closing mass and breakfast, the sisters compensated for a week-long silence and reflection with a skit illustrating ideas from the retreat.

Singing in sign language

The skit, complete with costumes, was followed by a song in sign language.

Singing in sign language

The sisters had learned some sign language from Fr. Charlie during the week and now they used it with enthusiasm!

The audience for the skit

Not everyone could take part in the skit, but that meant other sisters could form an appreciative audience!
