Catholic NGOs Meeting |
There are 1,600 local and international NGOs (non-govermental organizations) working in Cambodia. They bring in a lot of expertise, financial assistance, and other resources, but they also create certain difficulties and problems, such as encouraging a dependency on foreigners and an attitude that things should be provided without any local contribution. Partly to counter some of these difficulties and also to work together more effectively, about fifteen Catholic NGOs meet together regularly to learn about each other's work and to look at the signs of the times, to see what needs to be done in Cambodia. In these photographs, representatives from New Humanity, the Salesian Sisters, CIDSE, Maryknoll, a Belgian lay community, the Marist Brothers, and Caritas met with Bishop Emiles Destombes at the Salesian kindergarten in Tuol Kok, an area of Phnom Penh. |
