Today Bishop Yves Ramousse, a member of the Paris Foreign Missioners, celebrated his 75th birthday, his 50th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood, and his 40th anniversary of his consecration as a bishop. Bishop Ramousse (white shirt, here seen with the present Bishop Emiles Destombes) first took up his responsibilities as bishop in Cambodia in 1963. Forced to leave Cambodia in April, 1975, two weeks after the Khmer Rouge took over, he resigned to allow a Khmer bishop to be appointed. The Khmer bishop died under the Khmer Rouge two years later, and Bishop Ramousse was then in 1983 appointed vicar for all Cambodians around the world and in all of Cambodia. In 1992 he was reappointed as bishop of Phnom Penh where he served until his retirement in 2001. |
