The Colonel Comes to Phnom Penh
About two weeks ago, Colonel Sanders finally arrived in Cambodia. The informal opening was delayed a week to give the staff more training, according to the owners.
There didn't seem to be a rush to try the Colonel's chicken when the doors finally did open. Most of the customers seemed to be the more affluent young crowd, perhaps in the store as much to be seen as to enjoy the special herbs and spices.

Today was the formal grand opening of the first KFC store in Cambodia and they made a big to-do about it. A ceremony tent was set up in front of the store and lots of dignitaries in suits and SUVs were in attendance. |
The Colonel may have lost a few customers due to the fact that his tent was blocking 1 1/2 lanes of the three traffic lanes on that side of the divider, but Phnom Penh people are so used to arrogant important and/or rich people blocking streets like this for their private celebrations that they may not have given it a second thought. |
